review

Without a car, no job and tired of repeat television, I have turned to Netflix for my entertainment now. I admit I was surprised to find full-length movies on the website, but pleasantly pleased. This will allow me to crochet/knit faster as I watch.

This movie was entertaining despite having never played the game. At least I now know what made the birds angry! Damn medication had me dozing at the beginning, but not so much that I could not follow the story.

Cute characters, especially Red (Jason Sudeikis), Chuck (Josh Gad), Bomb (Danny McBride) and Terrence (Sean Penn). Wouldn’t you know the antagonist would be named Leonard (Bill Hader). Other notable voice talents included Maya Rudolph (Matilda), Peter Dinklage (Mighty Eagle) and Keegan-Michael Key (Judge Peckinpah).

SYNOPSIS

As kids in the 1980s, Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), Will Cooper (Kevin James), Ludlow Lamonsoff (Josh Gad), and Eddie “The Fire Blaster” Plant (Peter Dinklage) saved the world thousands of times – at 25 cents a game in the video arcades. Now, they’re going to have to do it for real. In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens discover video feeds of classic arcade games and misinterpret them as a declaration of war, they attack the Earth, using the video games as the models for their assaults — and now-U.S. President Cooper must call on his old-school arcade friends to save the world from being destroyed by PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede, and Space Invaders. Joining them is Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan), a specialist supplying the arcaders with unique weapons to fight the aliens.

REVIEW

I was pleased to find this in the DVD rental store yesterday, as I enjoy this genre. I also find Kevin James and Adam Sandler funny, their movies family-friendly, which leads to humor and a good entertainment.

The throwback music accompanied the movie plot well and evoked feelings of nostalgia and memories of more innocent times in my own life. I never was an arcade nut, but I do remember when the arcade opened in Marina del Rey and the desire associated with wanting to part of a new thing and social life. My favorite arcade game used to be Centipede.

Fun movie!
